What Is a Ghost Job?
A ghost job is a real company posting a real-sounding role with no active intention to hire. The position might already be filled, hiring might be on hold, or the listing might exist purely to collect resumes for future openings. Ghost jobs are different from scam jobs — they come from legitimate companies but waste your time and applications.
The Signals We Look For
Klickapply's detection system analyzes every listing across multiple signals before assigning it a health score from 1 to 5.
Signal 1 — Posting Age
Jobs older than 30 days without updates are a strong ghost job indicator. Active hiring moves quickly — if a role has been open for over a month with no changes, the position is likely filled or frozen. Klickapply flags all listings over 30 days old for additional verification.
Signal 2 — Salary Information
Legitimate, active job postings increasingly include salary ranges. A missing salary on an older listing compounds the ghost job signal significantly. Klickapply's scoring system weights salary presence heavily — especially for listings in markets like UAE where salary disclosure is becoming standard.
Signal 3 — Company Verification
Klickapply cross-references company information against verified business data. Listings from companies with inconsistent or unverifiable information receive a lower health score and are flagged for review.
Signal 4 — Description Quality
Ghost listings often recycle generic descriptions with no specific team context, reporting structure, or technical requirements. Our system scores description specificity as part of the health score calculation.
The Health Score System
Every job in Klickapply has a health score from 1 to 5 stars. The score is calculated at the time of indexing using the signals above:
- 5 stars: Fresh listing, salary present, verified company, specific description
- 4 stars: Minor signals missing but generally reliable
- 3 stars: Some concerns — proceed with awareness
- 1-2 stars: Multiple ghost/scam signals detected — filtered from default feed
Jobs scoring below the threshold are automatically removed from your feed. You never see them.
What We Don't Do
Klickapply does not claim to catch every ghost job — no system can. What we do is apply consistent, transparent scoring so you can make informed decisions. The health score is visible on every listing so you always know why a job ranked the way it did.
Scam Detection
Beyond ghost jobs, Klickapply also flags potential scam listings — roles with salary promises far above market rate, companies with no verifiable online presence, or listings requesting unusual personal information upfront. These are removed entirely from the platform.
